What?
In this project we aim to track the performance trajectories of track and field athletes to identify the possible determinants of success. So far we tracked the performance trajectories of more than ten thousands track and field athletes at national and world class level and we realized that being a top-level at a young age is not a prerequisite to become a top-level in the adulthood and most top-level senior athletes were not considered as such when they were young. Furthermore, focusing on results in early event-specific competitions should be considered with caution because it may blunt future performance in the adulthood. On the contrary the duration of the competitive career in athletics is a key factor to determine the ability to reach elite performances.
